How We Conduct Research

Our commitment to rigorous, independent, non-advocacy research that serves the public interest.

The Public Lyceum conducts research with the same rigor and independence expected of major public institutions. Our methodology is transparent, our findings are evidence-based, and we never advocate for particular outcomes.

Our Research Principles

Independent Inquiry

We follow the evidence wherever it leads. Our research is not designed to support predetermined conclusions or advance particular policy positions. We exist to inform public understanding, not to advocate.

Multiple Data Sources

We triangulate findings across multiple data sources including public records, industry databases, consumer surveys, academic research, and direct interviews with market participants.

Stakeholder Engagement

We interview contractors, consumers, platform operators, regulators, and industry experts to ensure our research reflects diverse perspectives and real-world complexity.

Peer Review

Our flagship reports undergo internal review by our editorial standards board and, where appropriate, external review by academic advisors and subject matter experts.

Transparency

We disclose our data sources, methodology, and any limitations in our research. Where we cannot verify claims, we say so. Where uncertainty exists, we characterize it accurately.

What We Study

Our research focuses on systems that affect everyday economic decisions:

  • Marketplace structures and pricing dynamics
  • Information asymmetry between consumers and providers
  • Digital platform incentives and business models
  • Consumer decision-making in complex markets
  • Professional standards and credentialing systems
  • Trust mechanisms in local service economies

Our Commitment to Non-Advocacy

The Public Lyceum explains systems, reveals structures, and translates complexity. We do not tell citizens what to think or which decisions to make. We believe that better information leads to better decisions—and that citizens deserve both.
